Daydream So Hard: A Collaboration Between Other Half and J Wakefield
Supposed to be like a key lime pie
First off, my favorite dessert is key lime pie. So when I saw that there was a beer that was going to be built up to taste like key lime pie, I felt like I needed to have it.
This one is a Berliner Weisse with Lemon, Lime, and Milk Sugar.
You can’t get off with this one without mentioning the color. This thing looks like Kool-Aid!
On the nose, you get some fizz and bitterness.
Strangely enough, I don’t get a lot of citrus.
It smells more like pop rocks than anything specific.
I’ll cop to this at the front, I don’t typically like sours.
So I’m giving this one a try.
On the first sip, you get a nice hint of sour just like you’d imagine from lime and lemon. The interesting thing is that there isn’t a heavy amount of bitterness with the sour. It is balanced out by the milk sugar to make it sour but smooth.
Like all sours, this isn’t my style.
I do get a lot of the things I love about a key lime pie though like the smoothness and the citrus. With the addition of the milk sugar, you do get a creamier mouth feel. But overall, not my cup of tea.
Or, to use a bad metaphor…not my slice of pie!
I’m going to say that this is probably a good example of a sour from two breweries that I love, but it is not my style of beer. I’m sticking to the IPAs and stouts!
I’ll give this one a 70/100.
