Turley 2016 California Zinfandel Juvenile
Hey There!
It is still mid-70s in the fall, but there weren’t any great whites that were cold when my lady said she wanted to grab a drink…so, I grabbed this one.
My neighbor turned me on to Turley a while back and the one he gave me was really great.
This one I got at one of my local shops, Rodman’s.
First off, this is deep, deep red. It is a really pretty burgundy color. I’d take a photo, but tonight I left my phone upstairs and I’m not going to get it.
On the nose, I get a lot of jam, berry, fruit. I like it. The nose is very rich.
The first sip is pretty balanced. Up front, it is a little sweet, but not too bad.
You still get a lot of the jam.
I’m looking at the profile on the internets now and I see that this is the entry-level wine from Turley and that I’m supposed to get some cedar, spice, orange peel, and leather.
Leather is typically a winner for me.
Unfortunately, I’m not getting a ton of leather here.
I get a little of the spice, but it isn’t prominent.
Orange peel and cedar, I’m not catching any at all.
I’ve been sipping on this for a few hours now and I’ll give you three quick takeaways:
This is a good solid wine. At the $29.99, I might have some stuff that I like better and some stuff that I like better at a cheaper price point, but I wouldn’t hesitate to serve this or drink it.
It is a bit fruity. If you don’t like the sweeter wines, you might not like this one.
I’d definitely suggest you pair this wine with something big like a steak because the fat would definitely bring out something.
My rating on this one is an 89 out of 100.
